Vegas Cart 460cc Go Kart Racing Engine - DIY Assembly cam question

I got the 460 assembled and ran it on the engine stand with an open header and it sounded really good. Now with it on the bike with a muffler, I noticed what sounded like cam noise. I checked my valve lash when cold and it was still between .003 - .005 as when I assembled it but was still making noise. I took it all apart and all looked ok but wondered if the weights on the cam might be the noise since it’s not using the governor. I tried it again and still had the noise. It seems the cam has too much backlash and when the cam is out no noise but when it is in you can hear a little clank when you go back and forth (forward and back) via the flywheel and of course more noticeable running.

Is there a cam backlash that can be checked and set with using shims on either side of the cam or is there some other problem?

Thanks
