Ok guys. I added my 525 to 'my rides' but I had to guess at the year. The "system" wouldn't let me leave the year blank nor would it accept 70's. It wanted a specific year. I picked 1971... hmmm I wonder if it would accept 1791 ?
How do I determine what year this actually is?
    Thanks

Searching here, all I found was inconclusive info going solely on the frame tag. If it were all original, you might say that the engine serial would be within one year of the actual build date. Both of my survivors are 1970 based on that logic but also the actual assembly could have been done later. I wouldn't think that back then Gilson would stock-pile Tecumsehs. On the other hand, Tecumseh might have sold them surplus stock...

It's no secret that none of the Gilson line was designed for on-road so no need to go into great detail with the VIN I suppose.

Thanks but the engine that was on it is much newer than the frame, plus it is a Briggs not a Tecumseh.
    Where is the frame tag?

I put some new chrome fenders on it today. I want to find or make some sort of a clutch cover. This summer I'll will most likely stay mismatched colors. Later when I paint it I'm thinking a light bright orange for the frame, leave the tan seat and leave the blue engine. That would be very different. I also want to change the front forks. The ones on it aren't adjustable. I'd sell those and use a good working front suspension from a Rupp Roadster2 I have on hand. With some fab work to the frame tube length it will fit. Then I'll have adjustable handlebars. I can also increase the rake angle to help with straight line stability. No doubt it will be a winter project as I have car projects to keep me busy this summer.

Right, that's why I said "if" it were OE... Your frame tag is gone.

Would anyone happen to know what years Wards sold the 525's?

Ok, Good. I'll stick with my guess at 1971 for mine :-)
