    need hs-40 help

i have a hs-40 that is missing the engine tag that was held on with the 2 rivets- it has points and the exhaust port is minus the 1/2 inch threads- i would like to replace the piston rings- would someone tell me a engine part number that i can use to order parts? thanks Jeff

HS40-55513F is a points engine. Bores were the same for the HS40s. Cams were changed, as was the ignition as you mentioned, but the rest should be the same for all of them. You might try and get some .010 over rings if you've honed it, then file end gap to specs. They tend to run wider end gaps on factory ring sizes.

Might want to make positive it is an HS40 block before ordering anything HS40, The only way you get one of those with no 1/2" NPT threads in the exhaust if theyare machined out or busted out by a header.
