5 HP briggs crank bearing install

#1
Putting together a small PTO bearing engine for my Lil Indian resto. I will be machining down a std. crank so I can use the ball bearing. The small Briggs bearing I got is shielded on one side and open (can see the bearing balls) on the other side. Which side of the bearing goes to the crank gear side? open or closed end of the bearing.
Thanks

Call Tommy's before you do any machine work on your crank, they have some nifty bearings to make briggs cranks work.(old style crank to raptor) and so on.

Thanks for the replies. My small journal bearing came in a Briggs box numbered 99158. Appears to be the correct number. Interesting is that it has SKF and a part number on the outer race. SKF is a well know bearing mfg. Knowing this and before I machine my non PTO bearing crank, I'll be doing another search ( dimensionally) for one that might work without any machining to the diameter of the output side of the crank.
