I have a 5hp flathead Briggs with the pulsa-jet carb and am having some tuning issues. The motor has been sitting, so today I pulled the carb apart and cleaned it and replaced the diaphragm, but I'm still having the same issues, which are:
-the motor refuses to idle for more than a few seconds unless you set the choke half way on.
-the mixture screw has no effect on how the motor runs (I even removed the screw with no change).
-the motor just doesn't make much power.
All of this leads me to believe its running very lean. When I pulled the carb off today, I saw the fuel pickup screen had some debris in it. Is there any way to remove this screen to clean it completely?
The jet (brass plug with holes in it that draws from the small surge tank within the fuel tank) had some debris as well. I cleaned it with carb cleaner and air, but I suspect there is still trash in it. Is this brass plug removable?
