differences in honda z50s?

#1
i have 2 honda z50's from when i was a kid
an 84 orange z50 that had a lot of power back when it ran
and a chrome 86 special edition z50, its always been weaker then the older orang one

the orange one could pull 6 kids around with in a wagon tide to the back no sweat
the chrome one could barely pull itself with one kid on it

any idea on why they have such a big power difference??
they are the same frame and engine type

They were virtualy unchanged for years , but someone may have changed the sprockets on one or the other ,

There should be no reason for a difference in power solely because of the different years, those motors are identical. Did you pick up the 86 used or something? Does it run and idle OK or does it bog when you give it a lot of throttle? If you got it used it could be just worn piston rings or valves need adjusted. If it's a throttle issue carb may need cleaned or adjusted as well. If you go to Planet minis there's a lot of good folks into the Z50's that are a wealth of information.

the 86 was used and didnt have a carb when we got it
used the one off the orange one, it foals out sparkplugs and bogs out,
idles quiet and smooth(quieter then a honda elite 150 deluxe at idle)
its always been that way
im hoping to get them both back to factory running spec for my kids to ride

sorry no pics just a chrome z 50 with a blue seat and an orange one that we used for parts and half the head missing
