Indian mini MM5A detune the detuned Help!

I have a new to me Indian MM5a 48cc coming my way here in the new future. Looking over the owners manual it says that the bike is detuned to go 10mph but can be tuned to go faster.

The PO is recommending a new piston and honing so I can go with an oversized piston to start.

Of course 10mph isn't going to cut it...so what is normally changed to get it to go faster? I can make some guesses but would rather be assumed an idiot that remove all doubt.

Hello Dave : Another Oregon member welcome to the OldMiniBikes. Well the two things that made the MM5A go faster than the stock machine was to drill out the intake manifold to increase the air and fuel and on the stock plastic air cleaner there is two inlet ports and the two openings and the material between was cut out and that gave it more air flow.
As a former Indian dealer I only did this once on my sons mini mini.
As to tell you what size of drill to use I just don't remember as I will be older tomorrow and soon I will be 70 so I request a break in service LOL
