magneto , when I plug black wire in the bottom it wont spark?

Pardon me but I am a newb

I have a briggs engine. The magneto has one wire going to the plug and another thin ground? wire not sure. But if I plug the black wire to the bottom of the magneto it wont spark. Right now I have it disconnected, it runs, but the only thing I notice different when I shut the key off it kind of takes a second to shut off.

The thin black wire is for the kill switch or button.

sounds like your killswitch is grounding out without pushing the button/ flipping switch...whichever style you have..... try a new kill switch...
