So today I got a computer generated "Birthday Card" in the mail.

I opened it up and it says "Happy Birthday and Congratulations you've been selected to receive a netbook computer and 2 round trip airline tickets, absolutely FREE....please call 1-877------"

I call the number and talk to a nice customer service rep who tells me how to go about getting my FREE computer. "All you need to do is listen to a 90 minute presentation from our Travel Company. NO obligations, NO forms, NO other requirements" ....really? There's no catch, no hidden fees, NO B.S.!!?? "Nope, if you decide not to participate, you'll at least walk out with a brand new, in the box, netbook computer AND 2 airline tickets to anywhere in the continental US."

Needless to say, I grab the wife and off we go. Meeting is at 6pm, home by 8...new computer in hand, airline tickets in the back pocket.........NOT SO FAST:shrug:.

The meeting took 2hrs, then have to talk with a travel consultant for 45 minutes, then get 2 VOUCHERS for my FREE items......VOUCHERS:censure:. The travel programs start out at $6900 and go up to $12,900.:eek::eek:

The computer is, as far as I can tell, really free. I just have to send in the voucher and wait "a few weeks for processing". The tickets, not so much, gotta send in $65 per ticket (for service and handling fees) by certified mail ONLY, and this is just to get a reservation card, then I have to pick out 3 dates (none guarnteed) that I want to travel, and must be used within 1 year.

So I pretty much wasted a perfectly good evening listening to some lady in high heels talk about how cheap it is going to be to travel the world.

Anybody else ever get sucked into one of these SCAMS?

Free isnt always free.

Well I supose some things never change and its refreshing to see they are still using that old bit to scam people.:doah:

It must pay off for them overall since they just keep doing it.

I agree, for what a netbook costs these days it would have been better to just go buy one and enjoy your evening, I've seen new "lowend" laptops for around $300.

..similar story.

At the mall, fill out this card for a chance to win this car, so I was bored, filled it out. A month later they call to say we will be mailing you a key to try in the car, please come to this address to try your key. I get there, listen for 2 hours to them trying to sell me a camp ground, try my key, no car door open. My key did open a box with a camera(a 35mm POS) that I threw in the garbage before leaving. And a trip for 2 to Las Vegas.

Trip was a complete scam. I threw it away after reading up about it.

We fell for it for free tickets to Sea World while in Disney years ago. It was only an hour and we didn't buy a time share. We did get the free tickets though.

Thats all over down there We always go to universal and sea world free
When me and my wife were in Vegas last year we seen several shows for free going to those time share things, took like 30 minutes each, mostly we were going to go to those resorts to visit the casinos anyway.

The last one we did we got, 100 dollars on a casino card, won 250 bucks off that, and got two tickets to see Peep Show with Holly Madison.
