Timing a clone sort of

#1
I did not really set out to show you how to time a clone today, but I was playing with my new 10 dollar Chinese timing light and wanted to see how well it worked.

Here's a quick low res ( I have a very old camera ) video of light on my snow blower.
I am just flashing the pulley, but you can clearly see the grub screw in the pulley as the light flashes.

If this were a real decent how too I would.....

Put a piston stop in the spark plug hole.
Rock the crank back and forth to and mark the flywheel.
Mark the centre of these two marks to indicate TDC.
Measure the circumference of the flywheel and divided by 360 degrees and figure out exactly where 20 through 35 deg before TDC was.
Set a marker at TDC on the coil leg with a line on the case some place easy to spot with the timing light.

Then fire up the engine and see where its firing....

After you know you have your mark your coil and flywheel too.
And you never need to do this again ( unless you change flywheels and coils ), you can just do a static timing and adjust as needed.

And here is some bad video that does not show you much at all except this ignition is very stable ( typical of a solid state mag ) and the grub screw is stable in the strobe light.
If it wasn't, I would be concerned I have an ignition issue...
