The back space can be offset. The centered rim is a plus, but a offset rim would work just the same. The ideal tire size depends on the rpms your engine will push, the gearing you want to run, and the length that you will be racing on.
if using a regular kart slick the tallest I found is 12" so a 12/6.5 or 12/7.0 will work... I use the carlisle smooth 13/6.50-6 on my bikes... not an actual race tire but they work..
