3hp with no shroud for board trackerwill it overheat?

#1
Im starting a board tracker build. I was hoping to use my briggs 3hp without the fan shroud. It seems people have had a lot of luck running the 5 hp with no shroud. Do you think the 3hp will over heat with out the shroud?

why are you "anti-shroud"
Because he wants it to look like an old free air board track racer engine.

I have never tried it, but I would think it would work as long as you don't sit and idle too long. If your gonna sit, shut the engine off. I was thinking of making a mini indian board track racer replica soon myself. I'm going to use an old briggs model 6s hooked up direct to the back wheel without a clutch.

why are you "anti-shroud"
1. For the looks
2. Getting rid of the shroud and pull start give you a much slimmer profile for fitting in a bike frame

yeah me too....did they change the oil slinger?
Yeah they repositioned it or made a custom one, I don't remember. I guess it has been running quite good even at that angle.

Another guy tilted a 6.5 clone 90 degrees without changing the slinger at all, he reports that it has been running fine for awhile. It even made a 25 mile commute round trip no problems. With out a shroud too.
