4hp tecumseh id?

took this motor off and was wondering how to decode the numbers?
i tried using the google ones but that left me at either 1960 or 1970?
and im not sure what the other numbers meant?

1970, That tag/stamping style was from later 1962-1970, the numbers on the far right bottom are things like production line, or things within the factory, they changed that in 1970 to just a single letter or number at the end of the serial number. And the HS40 did not start until 1968, hope that helps

It's a 1970, HS40 didn't exist in 1960.

55272C ? (hard to read) is the type. All HS40 are 55XXXX. The 272C (?) will determine crankshaft, carburetor, bearing type, lighting coil, etc.

Serial 0190: 0=1970, 190th day of the year = July 9th .

12153 I have no idea doesn't come up much.

maybe, but I mess it up :laugh: I just noticed that I wrote
they changed that in 1970 to just a single letter or number at the end of the serial number.
That should be "first of 1971".....I have 1970 on the brain right now, someone just sent me a '70 hs to rebuild and its all over one table, I have another for someone else that half finished on another table that also a '70, shop notes and parts lists all over my desk with 1970 written all over them....:doah:

k so technically i think kenny got it with more info?

and is this an actual minibike motor and is there a way to tell what it came off of originally?
