70-80 differences?

I've got a 1971 Ariens snowblower with a Tec 7hp, but it has a broken rod, crank shows scoring on rod and ignition side main, block journal scored on ignition side. So, junk, I'm guessing. Being a "bigger is better" sort, is an 8hp dimensionally similar? How aboot the 10hp? There's a 10 at recycling, and 8's on the 'Bay, so it seems cheaper than bushing the block, polishing the crank?
Will my 120v starter and flywheel mount up? Tins?

TIA

I bought the HM100 and pulled it apart. Great shape, but the tapered shaft sucks. I just spun it to 3/4 and will have a friend mill a key slot.

I turned down the 10 flywheel for the 7 ring gear, but the starter mount is out farther. Doh!
