I am replacing the stock rod, do I need to get new bearings or can I use the stock ones. It is a new engine and has less than 5 minutes running time.

The stock rod doesn't have removable bearings. ARC offers two rods, one without replaceable bearings and one with. The one that comes with seperate bearings gives you the option of rebuilding without buying a complete new rod.

So what would the bearing inserts be used for?

Along with that, I will add that the bearing rods incur less wear on the crank and don't have the possibility of transferring aluminum to the crank and burning up.
