Different models will vary, but most are directional. Springs for reverse rotation are around for some. Golf carts use flat-end springs to work either way, but lack the ability to preload.
If its a 30 series(flat side on the driver towards the engine) driven flat side lines up when the spring is outboard. 20 series the spring is inboard. If you want to run the spring outboard you will have to run it with a 30 series spring.
I'm kinda new at this it's a 30 series but I think I have it figured out. Trying to rebuild a Baja trike and found out today the shaft the driven torque converter is mounted on is bent. Haven't looked under neight it yet but feels like a little gearbox
