Hello all predator gurus! I have begun modifying my non-hemi engine by removing the governor and installing an ARC flywheel. I removed all the govenor bits, and throttle linkage, put my flywheel on and reassembled the engine. I spun the engine now and then while assembling and it seemed to be a bit difficult to rotate as it was in the compression stroke. That seemed normal to me, though. However, after reassembling and trying to pull start it binds up pretty good every other tug or so. But when I pull the spark plug out it spins perfectly smoothly.
My assumption was that the exhaust pushrod was not positioned properly and not actually opening the exhaust valve in time. So I just took it all apart again played with the valves and push rods and again got everything to spin freely with out the spark plug. Put the plug back in and it binds up. I am baffeled!
I also took a video to help illustrate what is happening.
