hand load failure!

#1

this was a 38 special loaded with a 148gr hollow base wadcutter on top of a few grains of solo 1000.
it has been my standard plinking round for all my revolvers and 357 mag rifles for years.

the front of the wadcutter blew off leaving the base in the shell. lead is smeared all over the face
of the cylinder and in the barrel.

i fired this is my charter arms 38 off duty. pretty cool, i have been shooting since i was 14
(way too many years) and this is the first time i saw a failure like this.

Did you cast these or buy them? Looks like the lead was soft and with no gas check it just blew the center out. I am far from an expert on hand loading. Have done it some but just enough that I always follow the directions.

I showed this pic to a friend that reloads a lot. He suspected you may have doubled your powder load. Over hot load and blew the center out of the lead bullet. Just a possibility.

I found out that 2-3 max reloads on my short mag rifles was it after blowing the bottom of the shell case off , too much pressure on the side wall and they aren't banded like typical magnum rounds !
