Hauling two mini bikes on HF carrier

#1
I did some searching and did'nt really find what I was looking for so excuse me if this has been covered. I am looking and transporting two mini bikes and was wondering if anyone has done this via the HF cargo carrier listed below. I wanted to buy it to use to haul cargo as well as my mini's if possible. I do not want to buy and put together if its been done with no success...or any ideas how to haul two with cargo carrier?

I have hauled one bike or kart on those but never two, while you may have room my concern would be how to keep the two bikes from hitting each other and getting messed up

You might could do that and get some soft foam sheeting to put between the two of them? Depends on length of minis to tray length....

Try putting an old blanket (no zippers) between them then shrink wrap them together. You can get a roll of shrink wrap at Lowes for 10 bucks -maybe even HF cheaper.
That will at least hold them together, then strap both to the rack.
HF has packing blankets

Ive seen guys use those. I also have plans on getting one, I need a hitch first:laugh:. Blanket between them and ratcet straps I think would work just fine. SHrink wrap is also a good idea, I never thought of that.
ANyone ever put a gocart on your storage racks on the roof? Ive thought of that also They can hold something like 250 lbs:shrug::scooter:

Problem is you will need to lift the kart onto the roof and off the roof

I hated lifting it onto the hitch carrier so much I finally went and bought a trailer

Thanks for all the feedback! I really didnt want to build the cargo rack as it has a million parts to them but I guess I can always take it back built if I dont like it or it doesnt work out :) My only other concern is the weight of two DB 30's? The rack says it can take 500lbs. but how much do you think two DB's will weigh?

I do not have a DB but they have to be less than 150 lbs each I would think. I use a steel cargo hauler myself with only one minibike (1970 Rupp) and that is rated at 500 lbs too. I do question the capacity rating on a Harbor Freight hauler (or any other hauler really) but you will be way under the stated capacity anyway.

a DB stock weighs like 75lbs I think, so with a 6.5 in it maybe just under 100lbs:shrug: I know thats why I like my DBs ridding trails is I know if I get stuck I can just pick it up and carry to better ground, so it cant weigh more than I can carry.(150lbs tops):hammer::scooter:

I looked up the Predator engine the other day and it weighs 36lbs so I figured that the engine and bike have to weigh less than 100lbs.

Well I am going to purchase one today and build over the weekend and see how I can make it work for me :)

I have, and used, the steel one for a few years. However, I built a second strong bar on one end, going forward and under the car, and welded a bracket it bolted to on the car's frame - only takes a second to bolt it and otherwise the rack moves around in the hitch receiver and that bothered me! They will easily support 2 minis!

Because the contact area of a mini is just a few square inches under the tires, to strenghen the mesh I put 4 lenghs of .090 wall 1/2" square across, 2 each front and rear, about 5" apart, for the wheels to sit on.

Worked great, however, now I have a truck again; anyone want to buy it pm me!
