Homemade Spline Wrench

#1
Needed a spline/spanner wrench for the top nut on the triple tree for my project. Looking at $40+ for a decent wrench or $60+ for the OEM tool. Simplest solution would have been to cut some notches in the end of a pipe, but I didn't have a piece that was the right diameter.

Here's what I came up with using some scrap 3/16" flat steel, an extra 3/16" keystock piece I had, my welder and a grinder:

I cut the half circle to fit the nut, welded the keystock across the gap (used some deep bevels on both pieces), shaped the wrench, then cut the gap and filed the pins to fit the nut, followed by a coat of primer. About an hour start to finish.
