I opened up a nice Rupp engine today. Great original shiny paint -- a super clean engine overall! But when I turned the crankshaft there was a clunk sound. I pulled the head and the piston wasn't moving at all so I opened it up the bottom. The con rod is busted. The cylinder bore is pretty beat up and the piston is toast. The journal on the crankshaft is scored too :surrender::surrender:
I know I can fix the bore by having it bored out .10 over (does anyone here do that?) and the piston/con rod isn't a big deal since I have more in a box of parts -- but that 2-7/8" arma steel crankshaft isn't easy to find, nor is it cheap.
Can the journal be repaired or is scrap?
