I got this bike this time last year and had thought about selling it but have since decided not to.

This weekend I finally made some time to work on it. It was a little worse off than I had originally thought.

The pads on the disc brake caliper were completely worn off, luckily not quite in to the metal but very close. The brake cable was broken and I must have stolen the brake handle to use on another bike because it was gone (it was there when I first bought the bike). The bearings in the rear wheel were completely shot and the chain is stretched to the point where it doesn't properly mesh with the rear sprocket, except for on about 8 teeth at a time. I also replaced the original kickstand with a longer one.

I decided to put a newer 4hp Tecumseh on it and sell the original one to fund some of the other parts that need replacing.

I got some of the major parts repaired (engine swapped, brake pads replaced, new brake cable, brake lever replaced) and decided to take it for a test run. The motor runs perfectly, but I couldn't get it to go more then 5mph. I noticed that the driver wasn't fully engaging. I thought something was broken internally, even though I checked and cleaned it out prior. I did however add the brass bushing that was missing on the bore shaft of the driver, where the belt rides. And that was my problem. This driver must not need that bushing. I took the bushing off and now it runs out really nice. Who knew??!!

I'm going to keep fixing stuff on this bike over the next couple months. My son is going to ride this one at Windber.

Here's a couple pics of before and after (not much difference, but at least I can ride it now).

I've always liked that bike- kind of a Sears Roper on steroids! If I remember correctly, you purchased this bike from another OldMiniBikes member, correct?
How good does that rear disc brake work? This is a big/heavy bike. Does it really STOP you, or just kind of slow you down? (after re-reading your post, only going 5 MPH it is kind of hard to tell!)

Actually this bike is kinda big and heavy. But nothing like a Super Bronc.

It's pretty quick now that I removed the brass bushing from the driver clutch, it was binding it up and not allowing it to engage like it should. It does the average 30mph or so now.

The disc brake setup works OK, but it doesn't lock up the back tire. I had thought about putting a brake band and drum on the jackshaft opposite of the driven. There's plenty of room and I think it would work much better.

I bought this bike off craigslist in Tennessee last spring while we were vacationing. I had to ask another OldMiniBikes member to pick it up on his way from Alabama to Michigan. The guy who had it was the original owner and not an OldMiniBikes member, he just wanted it out of his garage.
