Sears Roper Build

That wouldn't be too bad. Dang, now you got me thinking. Lol

I have this chrome sticker stuff I am using kinda like the original sticker stuff on these bikes. I am going to get some black pinstripe sticker to make it look close.

Maybe original blue with chrome stripe with the black pinstripes?

I say do it, so that you like the way it looks! Whatever that may be. I've decided to do silver paint with the Roper stripes on mine, or at least that's the plan right now. I really like the way you bike is shaping up Pat, it really looks sharp!

Looks great! Was the sprocket from that rusted wheel or did you grind it off and put on a new one? I have a build going and mine is bent and i'd love to find a place to buy one than cut and weld

That sprocket is the old rusted one. It cleaned up nicely so I just left it. Man, I can't even think on how to straighten one out. Maybe eBay? Or you might want to ask in the "wanted" section here?

Went to the hardware store today and picked up some fasteners. Picked up a spring for the scrub brake. It appears that I need another spring to sort of counterbalance the scrub pad itself? Even with the brake not applied the scrub pad sort of tilts into the tire ever so slightly at the top. Anyone else ever have this issue?
Thanks, Pat

Pat,
Yes, we did, on BOTH of our Ropers. We installed a very small additional spring towards the top of the scrub pad and it solved the problem perfectly. (I posted photos of our install early this year on another thread for another OldMiniBikes member who had the same question as yours- don't know where it is). There are some members on this forum that emphatically state that the additional spring is not needed, however, that has definitely NOT been OUR experiences. If that scrub pad pivots down and jams into the tire tread it will lock up the rear wheel and that could get REAL ugly for the rider!
Michael

UPDATE: Pat, For some good photos of the spring I added go to the "General Mini- Bike" Section and scroll down to the thread that YOU started on 5-21-2013 entitled "Roper- SR5- NOT! Maybe someone more computer-savy that I can provide a direct link to that thread?

Thank you Michael. I see what you did there. Does your scrub brake aluminum casting have a lug on it or something for the spring to mount to?

Pat,
It did not come with any type of lug. I secured a very small "L" shaped bracket I made with a small flat head bolt, countersunk below the surface on the contact (tire) side of course. I have read where others have secured a nut with JB weld to the scrub pad (and hooked the spring there), however, I did not trust that type of attachment for this application.

Ahh, I got it now. Thanks again for your input. I have to do something about it and that spring seems to be about the best solution.

Guess what Came in the mail from Minibike Paul today? You guessed it, a nice decal kit. I know it's not exactly original to the bike, but it does look nice. It's from the same era. That was a goal of mine.

That looks Fantastic Pat!! Nothing like a set of decals to really make something stand out. Are you going to leave that muffler on there?
