Sks 56

Sell the sks and buy a rifle designed to work with detachable magazines. I've only seen a few conversions and not a one worked right. You had to tilt the mag just the right way or else jam city. Don't know if they were tapco or not.

Stay away. They jam. Magazines are difficult to insert.

If you are really stuck on an sks find one of the d models that are already made to accept ak mags and they shoot wonderful

I personally suggest a mini 14 in 7.62x39 for 30 round mag fun.

Or many other great guns that are a 100 times more accurate and just as reliable

The thought police don't let you have more than 5 rounds in a mag up here.
Therefore I was con sidering this with an SKS for deer hunting.

The SKS is real popular up here because they are so cheap.
I found one that apears to be a factory 16 production ( 70s )
No pressed in chrome barrel insert, no rivets and cheaper pressed parts.
Looks on par witha Russian or Yuga.

As for D model.
Never seen one up here.
The SKS came late to Canada and the good ones are few and far between.

I found a suplier with 5 round clips.
I might buy one and see if it will work on my brother's ( also a factory 16 )

Ahh. Didn't know you were in Canada. Sucks for guns.....
Different kind of place.
Things were OK up here untill some looney walked into a college with a mini14 and started blasting. He had a hate on for women and you know where this leads.

Started to get hard to buy guns and keep guns.
No one took them away but the goverment made it complicated and expensive.
Some rules like the 5 round mag and assualt rifle ban were new.

There is some slow ( after 20 years ) push back.

I gave up hunting with my enfield years ago because I was fed up with all the rules.
Now my son wants to go to deer camp so need to getthe PLA ( posession aquisition liscene )and related beeding heart bullshit to keep the law man happy.

SKS or 30-30 is about all I can shoot with neck and shoulder problems.

Small turn bolt or a percussion cap black powder breach are some other things I have been trying out.
I like the black powder 50 cal. I can shoot that and its realy light. I like the extended season too.
I am looking around for something that feels like a small Enfield and shoots cheap but I ahve not looked into it much or tried many small bore turn bolts.

Just thinking here last time I dropped a deer or moose was with a 1977 Plymouth Furry.
Maybe I just look for one of those and try and take the hind legs out on anything I see crossing the road lol....

Can't have an SKS with detachable magazine here. ANd even if you could it wouldn't be able to be more than 10 rounds.

In the process of installing a Monsterman grip on my AK so I can ditch the maglock though..

I shot one 20 years ago and I was playing with on the weekend.
Shoots just fine doesn't cause me any pain.
Need to make some modifications like dropping the bayonet and a pad for the but plate to get a bit more distance between my nose anything that might bump into it lol ( like my thumb lol ).

I handled some more modern military stuff at Labarons sports year back.
Not much use for a dear gun though.
SKS is about right for a dear gun.
Thats all I want.....
The Tapco 5 round clips looked like they might be a little more convinient that fumbling for a half full stripper clip and dropping bullets in the bush.
That's my main pont of interest with it.

YA you have the worng kind of liberals in California making stupid laws.
Up here even the socialists are not keen on gun controls. Hunting brings in a lot of money and making it bigger pain in the ass costs people money.

To that end cops and game wardens do not frown on you if you have a modified rifle of any kind as llong as it holds the correct number of shells.

My old enfield ( was rather fond of so I keep bringing it up ) was a MK4 made in 1944. It was never sporterized and weighed quite a bit. I got funny looks for not modifying that one ( My brother has one from 1917 that he wishes looks like it did in the trenches ).
Trouble with stuff like that is now they are getting so old you start to wonder if maybe you should not have them up on a wall instead. And you sure as hell don;t want to drop or scratch or damage Granpa's or great grandpa's rifle.

Yeah, I've got a Winchester model 20 .410 shotgun that's been in my family for years. I've shot it ever since I was in Jr. high school, 40 years ago, and as recently as last spring. I decoded the serial # a few months ago and learned it was made in 1922. It's a bit worn, but not badly. I plan to keep shooting it from time to time. Wish I knew more of it's history.

Aren't ya really missing the big picture here?

I mean... Ya get out to your stand, or where ever you're hunting, ya stick 5 rounds in your box.. And you're done...

It's not like Deer WAR or something...

Once ya have 5 rounds ready to rock and roll... You should be able to kill a deer...

Your not allowed to rifle hunt from a stand up here.

I tend to walk a lot on the dogs.

I don't like having a loaded gun in hand some of the places I go.
I have taken a few tumbles over the years so unloading and loading happens often enough. Bush up here is thick and the ground is rocky not easy walking.

I never slipped and dropped a gun to have it fire but it a possibility I chose to avoid.

I have seen an SKS slam fire too. I don't like the floating firing pin.
