Tecumseh go kart engine ID

#1
Picked this up a little bit ago, came off a go kart of some sorts. Where do i look on the tecumseh engines to find the model/id numbers? any idea of year range on it? it has a honey comb type air filter, doesn't look like it would filter much.

thanks, i'll double check those numbers and report back. edit-yep its a H30.
Those are the very last Points versions, Sometimes they even have the updated block with the lugs for electronic due to the switching over right about that time. They are 3hp but they have the larger H35 sized 2.5" piston in them and retain the shorter stroke and I beam rod, It should also have the mechanical compression release camshaft, which are excellent cams for the 2.5-3.5hp engines

thats all good to know, thanks for the info. I think i'm gonna use it on a old montgomery ward arco built bike i have. I need to find a bracket for the tank to put it on the other side of the engine, a oval air cleaner end cap and a small piece of shroud behind the main blower housin. other then those minor things it's nice and intact/complete.

The 2.5HP and 3HP are listed with the same bore and stroke. What's actually different between them to account for the power ratings?
carburation, its in the jetting in the carb body. 2.5hp "h25" engines were dropped from the lineup at the changoever to steel flywheels/square shrouding 1974/75. And during the swap to electronic ignition timeframe, the H30 retained the original stroke measurements but got the larger H35 sized piston, and the H35 got a stroke increase to what the HS series used, and even shared its crankshaft with the HS40 from that point on.

What's the complete engine serial number/engine code, Kyminibiker? Markus knows the year and HP just by sight alone but it's not fair to the rest of us plebes. :p

Looks like someone sanded off the paint to better read the serial no. but it rusted over.

Great info. I guess Tecumseh did that for their OH195EA engines which have alternate numbers of OHH55 for the 5.5 HP engine and OHH60 for the 6.0 HP but they have the same bore and stroke between the two. Is that a factory renumbering from model number OH195EA to OHH55/60?
