ok got a few questions does any one have any experience working with terne plating? from what i can find its what has been used in gas tanks for like ever .
i have found a few of the older mixes from
92% lead 8%tin
85% lead 15%tin
80% lead 20%tin
then the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) compliant one
50% zinc 50% tin
what is it like to use ? the lead ones is it a lot like soldering ? or is there more to it then that ? is one mix better then another ? what metal prep does one have to do ,what kind of flux would be needed .
and what is ni-terne a brand name or something?
or any one messed with the rohs stuff the 50 50 zinc tin mix ? i cant seem to find anything on it , like melting temp what prep, flux would be needed for hot dipping parts .
im wanting to find a better way to plate the tanks im fixing up and building . that doesnt take hours and hours of hand tinning with torch and ending up with mixed results .
