Hi i have a vintage briggs first two numbers on code 58.So i believe it is a 1958 engine .But not sure hp. Can you tell me what numbers to look at .It has engine plate on it.Any pictures .Wow great stuff....

Not quite.
By 1958 most small blocks (if not all) were aluminum.
Post pic of model and serial number located on blower housing or (most likely) id plate on cylinder cooling fins.

According to Wikipedia Briggs began making aluminium blocks in 53 :thumbsup: So lawn-boy would be correct, by 58 most of Briggs smaller engines were aluminium. (they did continue to make large cast iron engines).

By whats described I am guessing that minibike-mayhems engine is either a 6B or an 8B series engine. These were the 2 and 3HP engines produced shorty before the mainstream 2 and 3HP models.

If dartkevins engine has the id plate on the back of the motor then it is most likely a B series engine.
