when they (moreso the frame than the stand) arent wore out they work pretty well. the frame usually gets pretty worn both on the holes and the cut outs on the lip of the engine mount that keep the stand locked in both up and down positions. Usually can be tightened up with some welding and reshaping.

Like Markus said, it's normally the frame that gets worn down. When I redid my 70 Roadster, I used a file to reshape the edges and it grabbed a lot better. It still wasn't as good as new I'm sure, but grabbed and held like it should

We have one on our 1970 Rupp Roadster. We "rebuilt" it as others have said and it works "OK" at best. Personally I think it is a really funky design and I would take a conventional side stand with spring any day.

The reason I asked was I bought the 71 Bandit from Bryce and that bike sits tight all my Roadster s could blow over in the wind
