Hard for me to see exactly what's going on... but I see a lot of light under that ring. The end gap clearance look pretty tight though, not sure what the spec is on it.

Yes, the ring gap is aces because that engine is NOS.
Well, it was NOS until someone did a test run and converted into a smoke machine. :facepalm:
My theory is that one of the wrist pin clips was missing during assembly and cause the wrist pin to excavate the cylinder.

Wow, I agree, somebody forgot a clip.
Is it too deep to clean up with a .020 overbore?

If that's not an IC, I don't know if you could get away going .020'' over. I don't quite think a .020'' overbore would get all the way through either.

Well, If I remember right 0.010" oversize is technically 0.005" off each side.
It is an aluminum cylinder and I'm guessing the damage is about 0.020" deep or more.
That could mean I would need to sleeve it or go 0.050" oversize.
