Crankcase ventilation?

I have a Tecumseh motorsports h50. Is it necessary to run a catch can or crankcase breather. On most of the drag style mini bikes I see they run a catch can. Why is this and do I need one?

it has a crankcase breather on the lifter gallery. You can run a hose down toward the ground of if you are racing a kart then you need a catch can as per rules. If you are just running it in a mini and it is basically stock just a hose pointing down is what I use.

The " catch can " is used to prevent oil drip onto the race track.
