Dredge pump

#1
As you know, I live on a lake and we are plagued by Eurasion Milfoil and a lot of plant sediment from over the years. There is a guy going around offering to dredge the plants and sediment using a pump and hoses on a pontoon boat. Turns out he just pumps from the shallow areas and discharges out to the deep water. He came by my dock and said it would be about 400 chingasos to do my shore. I got a look at his equipment (don't go there) and I think I can buy a comparable machine for about $1200 plus hoses. Does anyone know anything about this or what to look for if I did it on my own. Any input would be welcomed.

I thought of doing sorta that in the river for the canoes.. we have a few real small creeks where it would help a lot.. I think I'd just use clean water from behind, and blow the trench open and let it fall where it may, as long as theres a shipping lane in the middle..
