First MiniBike ever Build

#41
I really like the finish, the frame looks SUPER! The shiny motor looks a little odd on there. I love the rust look on the frame and I've been wanting to try something like that for a while, but I'm pretty picky and I'm sure I'd never pull it off well enough to meet my standards. I guess I'm a bit OCD, I like the look of rust, but when I see rust, I want to clean it off. :eek:ut:

A good chain is worth the money. You might want to buy a few of them. I'll try to snap a pic of my homemade tensioner. It works really well for growing chains.

whats a good chain (brand name)

I think the biggest problem were the 2 links that were very stiff
I thought a few times riding I could hear it skip

ordered a new chain, and 4 links
at least if I loose a link I have spares

also ordered a tensioner I just have to weld a bolt on the frame and you set it
not spring loaded but thats fine
will help when I start to get slack if I decide to use it

got in my new chain, tensioner and clutch band brake setup

May wait on installing the tensioner, its much larger then I thought
but I could salvage the wheel it has
and possibly make a simple one just weld a small piece of metal with a slot going upwards
then I can adjust the wheel a little up and down

since I did not see a band brake mount for this engine I made my own
I may make a few more and throw on ebay I got a guy that cuts out with a cnc plasma cutter so I can easily mass produce a flat piece

not sure if its done correctly, but the couple tests works great
skids out the tire so I made it pretty weak, that way it will slow the bike down not lock the tire up

I still will be using the drum brake too in the back tire
just wanted a stronger brake too, noticed the bottom right bolt hits the chain so if I make anymore I will not have that hole drilled out

Powdercoated it too

Just noticed I should of rounded off those square corners

also found I needed to use that little guide on the bottom
up top which would probably keep it tracking straighter seemed to hit the chain or something
cant remember but I put it down low to miss whatever it was

also ordered a longer spring, as I wasnt aware it came with a spring
but im glad I did, I ended up using the longer one
the short one it comes with works too but this way there is always back pressure on it, makes it snap away faster

I think it turned out pretty good
the long bolt that it connects to I wish it was threaded longer
I had to weld a washer on the back side where the brake slides onto and gets held in place
if I had a longer threaded bolt I could of used a nut to fine tune the centerness
but it ended up perfect because I did all my measurements

That is about the nicest band brake set up I've seen. Really nice.

I'd be in for one when you get ready to sell.

cool
so no one make one
all I did was a quick search on ebay and this store here
but I figure someone would of made these for sale

yeah I can probably make some easily just need to figure out a few little details to make it easier to make

also want to get some ride time on it see if any changes need to be made

I think there are a couple out there and folks make their own. But, us talentless need to buy.
yeah I would of bought one too if I had found easily
but I didnt, and im not really patient to spend time searching deep to find one

mine I did all by hand, plasma cutter, grinder and die grinder
took alot of work to make very time consuming

but if I make ones to sell it will be cnc plasma cutter so they will look nicer and easier to make

got some street tests done today
with the new chain, and that clutch brake

all is good
brake will lock up rear when slowing to a stop, and I would assume in an emergency
so that is a little scary I may need to soften it up a little more with letting some more slack in the cable

and the chain survived, no slipping either so I think that original chain and the sticky links is what caused it to break

now onto the clutch
my last post said when I took it out to do my strap brake I had noticed a ton of oil inside, even on the metal clutch pads

so it was all cleaned out

the rides I did today it came back, flings on my leg and all over the frame
and this time I added no oil to the chain, left it with the coating it came with
so im not sure where this oil is seeping out from

I know the engine seal was dry, so it means its still coming out the clutch somewhere I guess

hopefully more rides will clear it out

oh I did an accidental wheelie trying to accelerate slowly
really starts to grab hard to I need to get used to it

did I buy too big of an engine, I think I did
but I did notice up steep hills it pulls really hard, not hitting the limiter
so thats a good benefit of having such a large engine

hopefully when I attach the trailer it will add little more weight and make it easier to accelerate

after I get more comfortable I will try to make some videos
just want to concentrate on everything mechanical first make sure its all good

I have my guy doing a huge order for me so once I pick those up I will drop off my template so he can cut these out

any idea on what they go for? so I can figure a price

#57
from the little riding I did today looks like I have a little more chain slack
why I hate chains, and why I hate how this bike takes it out
its a pain to adjust the engine

so I took the tensioner I bought, stripped it apart just for the roller wheel and made my own mount

just need to rust it

Looks good! Don't worry about too much power...you'll get used to it and crave more...like a Yooper and curds!
That tensioner is sweet!
Quit workin on that bike and get those brake brackets made! I think I want 2 of them now!

talked to my guy going to give him the template tomorrow
hoping he can get on it quickly should be an easy thing for him to do

so I was thinking make a set of 15
that way we will have extras and I can put on ebay too

but once they are made I will figure out where to put them up for sale on this site
im sure there must be a for sale area somewhere here

im going to order all the bolts and nuts needed to do this
so all the buyer will need is the brake lever, cable, and band brake

I will supply all the hardware to mount it to the engine and will be powdercoated black
and if someone wants a custom color I have in stock I can do that too no charge

thinking around $35 shipped usa here on this site I have no idea what these sell for
but im pretty much at the lowest I can do to cover all my expenses

little more on ebay to cover all the fees

hopefully this is something I can get cut out quick for everyone

You may not need ebay and their fees. Enough folks here just may keep ya busy.

There is a mini bike parts for sale section here too.
