Fuel Fitting - must I use the same replacement

I am tearing down the carb on the Bird Thunderbird I am working on:hammer:, and will need to replace the fuel fitting on the carb. The plastic piece is broken off and the metal tube is still attached:facepalm:. I don't think I should have any issues getting that out, but I was wondering if I had to use the exact same plastic/metal fitting (part #631807)? I was looking at the Tecumseh fuel fittings on ebay and noticed some that were all metal. Can those be used?:confused1: Is the diameter of the tube that press fits into the hole in the carb the same size?:shrug: Or am I better off just going with the plastic one and hoping it doesn't break again?:confused:
