Muskin 350ss rear brake

#1
Is it possible to add a rear brake to this bike. From the pictures I have seen it may have had them at one point. It has the welded tab near the rear axle. I have been looking all over the web but I cant find a specific brake kit to fit. This bike may not have the original parts on it but if someone could tell me how to add a rear brake system to his that would be awesome. Aloha!

I have that same roller frame, and from what I've been able to tell, it takes a disc brake caliper mounted to that bracket by the sprocket, and uses the area of the sprocket just inside the teeth as the firction surface. Subject to chain lube contamination. Plus, I've not yet seen the Cat direct bolt on caliper for sale. Not a common item, I guess. I was going to use a clutch brake on mine if I ever power it up.

Hi, welcome to OldMiniBikes. You Cat would have had a brake caliper that used the sprocket as a rotor. I can't tell from your photo but it looks like the caliper mount is still on the frame. You may only need the caliper? Here's a ad showing your bike.

If you can't find a 200M caliper you may be able to find a Limtco caliper.
A little modificaion is needed to use the Limtco, but it's an easy mod
Requires removing mounting hole "towers", then using spacers as "floaters:
.
Working on the modification here.

.
Below is a Limtco on a Cat.

I'm bringing this thread back up beacuse I have some old parts from a Kelsey Hayes model 220 caliper I'm trying to make work.....I don't understand how, if the caliper is bolted up tight to the frame bracket (like in the picture)... does the "fixed" pad on the other side do anything... the caliper would need to float somehow.....unless there are some bushings or something I'm not seeing...

ok...I think i see the bushing in this photo....but the caliper is still looks tight up against the bracket which would render the fixed pad useless it bends the sprocket :doah:.....maybe this one is just wore out....

Yeah, Looks like your inside pad is about gone.
The sprocket should be running closer to the other side
of the caliper.

Mac, those are just pics i found in another thread...I'm just trying to figure out if I have all the correct pieces to make mine work...I figure the caliper has to float somehow, can't be bolted up tight.....

Yeah, All The Cat's I've seen or owned use the two
7/16" o.d., 5/16" i.d. spacers so the caliper "floats".
