Heres my baby,

I picked up a super clean 1980 yota 4x4 for $2500 about a month ago. I've had some issues with getting it smogged (CO levels too high) I've rebuilt the carb and its still no good so i ordered a weber 32/36 yesterday. Hopefully that takes care of my problems. Anyways heres the story behind the truck. Im the second owner i bought it from a older man who bought it new in 79 and has garaged it since new. Its super clean the whole under-body, frame, and axles are all black still. Its got 126800 miles on it and a brand new set of tires. Heres the plan, i not goin to do anything crazy just some 3 inch trailgear leafs or some OME leafs convert to power steering maybe put a locker in the rear axle and eventually put some 31's on it after my current tires wear down. Further down the road i'll throw some wheel spacers on it and maybe some dual cases. This is going to be a slow build so bear with me im a broke student. Onto the pics!









Did a few things to yeller this weekend

Saw a ad on CL for a weber carb went to check it out and ended coming home with all of this instead.


Friday night I threw the front shackles on

Didnt do much saturday but today I put the rear shackles on and repainted the new bumper and threw it on





So now im on the lookout for a set of 3 inch leafs and parts to convert over to power steering
I got a nice little package in the mail today

Alright no real update but the truck been running great other than the choke not really working. Super reliable gets 18mpg in town and 23ish on the freeway.














Also found a old pic of it the day i brought it home next to my old truck.

Good find BB, Nice old Toy. The climate out there is much easier on them then here in Ohio with all the road salt. I had to put a fiberglass/steel bed on my 86. I had two Toyota trucks 1986 and a 1996. Both 4x4's extended cabs. They are frickin' reliable,never had any trouble with them. Here is a old picture of my 86 after new bed and new paint job.

The 22r's were such a great engine. They obviously outlasted the trucks structurally. I'd love to find a pre 86 4 runner. I'm down with building a trail rig but it looks like it will be a Bronco.

Looks like a good truck for the price. Around here you have to spend 5-10k and your still dealing with a rusty tub. I'm not afraid to do a frame off on one. I did a 79 shortened already. I just won't want to use it off road then :)

Here's my truck with 2 tons of concrete in the back. That was not a fun drive.





Yard waste going to the dump.



How it looks 95% of the time since I rarely drive it.



It's for sale if anyone local is interested. '77 Ford F250 4x4 (last of the High Boys), 351M, 4spd, 33's. PM me. It comes with an NOS grill ($$$), NOS grill inserts/headlight bezels, NOS steering wheel ($$$) and a spare front and rear bumper.

ditch the fkn cowbell. your truck looks great until you notice the redneck cowbell...damn, step above the "be like everybody else" and let your truck shine,
note, dont replace it with a rubber nut sack on a chain, holy hell our society has gone to hell, proof positive.
On another note, you got a straight axle front end, much better than the newer style:thumbsup:

Nice Truck.

Here in the East, Snow Belt, in one year my 2008 Tacoma looked worse underneath from the salt they put on the roads.

Hard to find Toyota's around here in that condition.

And that load of hay, would have had my Tacoma's bumper dragging. I didn't get the factory spring recall, but I had my springs built to haul that kind of load. Those bales of hay are not light.

Bryan:

1) Is that new carburetor 50 state legal?
2) Did you get it smogged yet? Those carbureted import trucks are next to impossible to smog.

3) As far as those "New" tires go, are they recent "new" or new from 10 years ago and never driven enough to wear them out? If it's the latter, be careful and check for cracking. Maybe check the date codes. I've seen plenty of tires that have like new tread, but really ready to blow out and very dangerous...
