Yes, some kind of Cat mini bike.

What kind it was? The kind that's going to make you cry when you start trying to find the parts to put it back together....
If that is the factory color, looks like a '74 CAT Slingshot frame. The two decals on it should still be legible. One on front fork panel, then the one on the rear frame crossmember.
Check the serial number on the top left front of the engine mount plate. The first two digits will be the year it was built. That model used a mechanical disc brake that utilized the rear sprocket as the disc. Pretty poor design when you got chain lube all over the sprocket. A lot of folks use a band brake kit on the engine case that wraps around the clutch drum and forget about the wimpy original set up.
