Proper Chain Tension (Video)

Can anyone tell from this video if this chain is too tight? This is how it was when I bought the thing. It seems tight, but when I ride I hear it clanking on all sorts of things.

your chain is way to loose you can adjust your tensioner to tighten it you should only have about a half an inch of play:thumbsup:

It looks like a half inch to me? I'll try tightening it a bit more tomorrow then... kinda the opposite of what I expected. Thanks for your input.

Really? Looks more like 3" of play at the loosest point.

Put a ruler or tape measure next to the chain, I think you will find that there is way more than a half inch of play in that chain.

1/2'' to 3/4'' play is measured in the middle of the chain between the two sprockets just about where your hand is when the video starts....not off the rear sprocket. Run a tape measure or yard stick up the middle of the sprockets from ground up for reference :thumbsup:

Hmm I have the tensioner all the way and its still too loose. Think I need a link out.

One 9ther question. .. if I lift the rear tire up it starts spinning, is this normal? I just put 3 drops of motor oil on the clutch bearing a week ago.

Nah I gave up on the chain because it was so old and worn... even with tensioner all the way tight it was way too loose.

the vid wont work for me.... probly my computer...

But you can loosen the engine and pull it forward more to help with the tension

I know that now.. should have done that before messing with taking a link out :/
