slide carb selection

#1
which round slide carb size would fit a 5hp B&S flatty the best? 19, 20, or 22mm? I know that the 22mm fits a 6.5HP clone very well, so my guess would be the 19 or 20mm, but does anyone know for sure which of the three would work the best?

22-23mm is the size of the stock intake seat I.D. of a gx200/Clone
But for a briggs the intake seat is bigger. It's about a 24mm I.D, which means the motor can benifit from a slightly bigger carb.

Depends on what you want to do, stock or build it up?

Im running an old 19mm carb on a Briggs flathead 5. I opened the port up slightly so everything matches smooth. With a stock cam you will have throttle responce up to about 1/2 way open throttle. Open the throttle fully doesnt change much because the cam lift limits the flow thru the carb. The 22mm carbs are very available and will work ok.

If your running gasoline you don't have to clean them. Only when running alky and letting them sit for long periods of time is when you have a problem.
