Taking Forks Apart?

#2
Tinker....Try this....Lay the entire front end that you show in the picture on your workbench with the lower fork legs facing toward your belly. Rotate the right and left lower leg so that they are in the same position as they would be if they were on the bike. Now, rotate each leg 180 degrees. About an inch down from the bottom of the spring you should see a hole on the outer side of each lower leg. Poke around in that hole with an awl or ice pick and you should find a spot where it feels spongy and your awl goes in about 1/4 inch. While pushing in on that spot and holding it in...pull down on the lower fork and it should start to slide off. Once it begins to slide off, remove the awl and slide the lower fork the rest of the way off. There's a little pin and spring in there so be careful cause it will fly like hell past your 1987 Nissan work truck with 200,000 miles on it and head straight for that fully restored 1959 Corvette that you keep in the corner of the garage. Let me know if this helps......Ogy
