Tecumseh HELP 11hp carb starving for fuel

#1

Just about done with the build and now I'm having problems with the stock carb. This is a brand new (old stock) motor. Ran fine about a month ago but now it only idles. Any throttle with the choke off, it trys to die. Choke on, rev's up...

I've never worked on this (new) type carb with the plastic float bowl (clip-on). I have cleaned it (a little, afraid to get rough with it). I have a filter on the new petcock AND inline. I've vented the tank & tested it for flow - flow a full stream of fuel. What the :censure: am I missing?

It probabley needs to get cleaned.

Poke all the holes with a needle and blow some compressed air in the holes after removing the bowl.

Not being rude but personally those are the worst carbs tecumseh made, I would recommend you to get an adjustable Techcumseh Carb.

Heck that's not rude... With all the plastic I knew it was crap. I have a Walbro PZ30 but I need to play with the jetting. I THOUGHT I'd put the stock carb back on and connect the governor just to get a base-line on how it was running before tuning the Walbro. I knew I'd end up re-cleaning the (stock) carb but I was hoping someone on here might have learned something about these plastic carbs. Guess now I know, I confirmed they are crap! I'll keep after it till I get it. My frustration was getting the best of me the other day....

Echoe those are the worst carbs ever.....

Look for an older version from a snow blower to replace it. They have brass floats and adjustable jets.

You may need to consider a replacement aftermarket carb. Does not need to be an expensive race carb like tilly or Slide carb. If it fits ( like a Kohler or Carter N ) they odds are it will work and be easy to tune.

Governer issues come with aftermarket....

Good news! I found the problem... I re-cleaned it and again found nothing BUT I found that the center tube that likely acts as a main jet (does not have a real 'jet') was stuck down into the bowl. It has a spring in the bottom of the bore (in the plastic float bowl). When I pulled the tube out, it was firmly planted being held by two o-rings. When I reinstalled it, the tube floated up & down (from the spring tension) riding on the two o-rings. Turns out THAT is what it should do! Runs great now... Walbro is next and removing the governor.
