this looks fun

Back in 1973 a man came into my shop and wanted some chain for his go kart. This home made kart had a 3 cylinder DKW 2 stroke car engine they had a very heavy flywheel to sustain inertia and three coils .
This went into a Harley Davidson 4 speed gear box complete with the clutch and kick start. standard 6 inch go kart slicks on a 1 inch live axle and a Bendix 6 inch drum brake.
His fun was to race cars like the Plymouth GTX's and Pontiac GTO's and the only place they could get away with this illegal racing was down in the Los Angeles river bed and of course they would get chased out of there by the cops but a lot of racing still got done.
Speeds of 140 MPH were common place and there were both bragging and money exchanged . This took place down in the concrete river bed around South Gate, California where a lot of movie stunts were also filmed.
