What do we have here? A rupp?

#1
I bought this off a guy from work 5 years ago, and he told me it was a Rupp, no model named. Not long after I hurt my back and stored it till now. The engine looks suspiciously like the one on my old jiffy ice fishing auger.

What is it? Is it even a rupp? What model/year could it be? Is it special enough to restore (I rode it around for about 2 minutes, needs work haha) or pass on to someone who likes them? Has it been ruined enough that I shouldn't feel bad putting a 212 on it, and have fun playing with the "clutch lever" on the belt, and pop wheelies.

That is a Tecumseh engine on this one. It is not mine, I found it in the Media section of this site.
Top of the page...MEDIA then find Columbia/MTD.
I do not think your engine is original, but Tecumseh engines are always on Ebay.
Welcome back to the madness!
Do you have a gas tank for it?

It appears that this bike isn't super common, but not really sought after, so I won't feel bad messing with it. I like the suspension, and there is a "clutch lever" on the handlebars that actuates a tensioner on the drive belt. I think I can rev it up and drop the clutch, very cool!

When I tested it, I ran it with 30-1 oil mix because I knew I wasn't going to have it running every month. Not sure if high oil ratio helps, but it seemed smart at the time haha

I think you just closed your question, sir.
I believe your engine is a Robin EC10. Maybe a Subaru/ Robin EC10. You should be able to find the correct mix ratio and some maintenance instructions online. I have a few 2 stroke engines. I buy oil with stabilizer already mixed in. Stale boat and saw gas smells terrible and gums up the entire engine.
Have fun and be safe.

Sparkwizard - Good eye on the engine by the way, I was cleaning my shed, and took another look, and its stamped EC 10D 801. I couldn't find any other markings or branding on it, but I didn't spend a lot of time with it. I think I want to upgrade, I love a good two stroke, but 4 hp and 4 tq isn't going to cut it.

I will buy that engine when you are done with it. Parts are hard to find, so I scoop them up when I see them.;)
I have been known to do some horse trading, also.

Please post what you'd like to put on it when you get it narrowed down. Someone here will be able to help. That is a great frame to build a comfortable rider from.

Yes, Predators have been installed on those. If it was mine, though. I would look for a Tecumseh HS40 with slant intake and the correct torque converter parts to make a great rider for another 40 years.

I ran it today with some 25:1 mix plus a splash of seafoam. It stalls sometimes on takeoff, but I'm pretty heavy, and the tires and belt are rotten, so I'd say it's not really the motors fault. This thing screams! I don't think I'll be putting a 212 on it after all. Very cool bike, I'm glad this forum is still around!

look into putting a torque converter on it. That would make it act like an automatic transmission, and it would not try to stall on take off, like a manual clutch.
I love those old 2 stroke engines. They are light, simple and they just sound FAST!
