What's the difference between 9hp & 11hp gx340?

I just picked up a 340 and it says 9hp. I assume this is a older model motor. What extra does the 11 hp motor have?

Honda de-rated the motors a few years back. I don't think there is a difference. Could be wrong though.

I'm a ass. The motor clearly says gx270 on the shroud. My buddy told me it was a 340. Is there a way to tell a 340 from a 270?

Yes. Look on the side of the block. You should see the engine make and model numbers. There's a big difference between GX270 and GX340. Basically none interchange except for a couple things. Like cam, carb, head. There will be size difference between 3 of them parts.

Its definitely a 270.....but it also was free. So I'm still very pleased. Thanks guys
