1972 muskin tri cat

I picked up this little gem a few days ago as a "mostly" complete roller. That's the good. Now, the bad. One wheel was froze on the rear and could not be removed from the machine.. 23 tons (strain gauge) of pressure was needed to free the rim from the axle resulting in me destroying the wheel:hammer:

Does any one have, or know where I can obtain one of these jewels? I have searched for 2 days with no luck as of yet.

I would like to also call upon you all to help me in assisting with the restoration and reassembly of this machine as I am really green when it comes to the trikes!

Thanks for any and all help guys! Jimmy.

Theres your answer Fishbulb.. (it's a Simpsons quote)

Yeah most anything like that used parts already available from other manufacturers at the time... It looks like a regular riding mower wheel with the keyed axle...???

I have a bunch of different wheels and tires and probably have one just like it I will give you for the price of shipping.. what are the dimensions of the wheel? :scooter:

71, its the wheel on the left that is bad. When pressing the axle out, it pushed all the offset out of the wheel (about 3'') I thought it was a garden tractor/implement type wheel but have found nothing in its size. I would like to leave it stock and only change from stock as a last resort.

Restore, the wheel is a 3/4'' bore with key way. The tape measure starts @ the valve stem side of the wheel from left to right, for the picture of the wheel that is horizontal or laying on its side to show the offset needed...

Thanks a million gents!

Jimmy

hmm that might be a tough one to find  maybe you could get 2 lawn mower rims the same size diameter for the axle to slide over and buy large tires to compasate for the downgrade in rim size? like say that the rims now are 10 inch rims and the tires are 22x12x10. go buy 2 lawn mower rims that are identical but maybe a smaller size rimlike a 8 inch rim then go buy tires that are 24x12x8 and there ya go the tires take up for the smaller rim size. also if you dont want to go through that try emailing GUMPIT he is a trike freak he has like 7 or 8 of all kinds of trikes you never know what he might have

I have a set of them that I think are the same wheel, except these have two holes about 3/8 inch, one on either side of axle, in the face of the rim... Lightweight speed holes? lol... Other than that I would say they are the same.. They have the old Carlisle tires on them so I would say are an older part.. I will have to cut the tire off from a wheel and see how it looks with no tire but looks like it should work all the same.. It looks to be dished the same.. The only thing I can think of is possibly hub location... This one is about 3 inches from the front edge of the rim to the end of the hub, and about 2 inches from the rear edge to end of the hub... :hammer:

The camera is charging and I will chop a tire off and get ya some pics and let ya judge for yourself

Thanks guys!

trk, The front side of my good wheel measures 2 1/4 from outer lip to hub face.

The back side of the wheel measures 2 1/8 - 2 1/4 Again thanks for going through the trouble...

With a name like grumpit, he may chew my :censure: out for causing the problem in the first place!

 Gumpit..... hell one guy called him Armpit.. he was just messing with him though. Gumpit is a real good guy.. I don't think he has a problem with anyone in the world..

There was about nothing you were going to do to save that wheel.. LOTS of heat and penetrating lube and stuff maybe... It's simple enough to replace.. 14 dollars in the mail might be better than 60 bucks worth of torch juice and squirty can lube by time it's over with.....

Unfortunately I havent had a Muskin (Yet). And other than the Alsport, I think all of mine have the standard 4x4 bolt patterns. If you cant find a suitable rim to restore it, I would at least buy hubs to run any 4x4 bolt pattern rim on it to be riding it asap. But I am sure someone in the forum will have what you are looking for.Steve may have something. Take lots of pics as you go along. Randy

Huh, well the wheel is all the same size, 8 3/4 rim by 7 3/4 wide.. 3/4 keyed hub... But mine is dished slightly different.. Mine are closer to 3 inches deep to the end of the hub on the front, and 1 1/2 on the back... It would make your stance a little bit wider... I could maybe sell ya both I suppose.. These tires are not too bad.. not sure how much ya want to spend on shipping but I am pretty sure I could send ya both wheels with tires for like 40 bucks... shoot me your zip code and I can get a better idea all the way around.. I haven't cut the tires up yet but could get you a pretty great best guestamation....

Restore, I would buy yours in a hart beat! That is if my axle's weren't 1'' :hammer: :censure: :surrender:

The threaded portion of the axle is the only part that is 3/4, the rest is 1''

After reading what mybiz posted, and viewing that wheel in his pic from BMI, I knew I had to be missing something. I flipped over my good wheel and measured the back side of the wheel, yep 1'' :anon.sml:<<<<(describes it all)

I still need,
1,goodyear compass 21 x 11.00 - 8 tire (knobby)
a big effen motor :scared:
2 vintage brake levers, period correct twist throttle...

lol.. I've got an effin huge briggs 11 horse electric start with charging system that runs pretty great.. Wheels I don't think I have any 1 inchers... :doah: Most tractors are 3/4 unless you get into the 1970 Case stuff or something like that.. And most any REAL garden tractor uses a splined hub that the wheel bolts to.. :doah: The slide on wheels like this are newer aluminum tranny lawn mower tractors.. It looks like Mybizz'z wheel might be the answer.. The tires look like standard ole 3 wheeler tires and those you should be able to get just about anywhere....

OH and brake and throttle stuff you can usually find on Evilbay pretty cheap for NOS 35 year old never used parts.. But someone here may box up some nice parts and sell them to ya dirt cheap if they have a few extras running around..

Trade? All I got is 2 wooden nickels and a rented mule:thefinger:. I'm sure you would rather me just rob the wife's purse. Figure out a price and I will paypal it to ya.

How hard is it going to be to find a used commit TQ thingy for the motor, in the range of 10-13hp. As the other half is still on the jack shaft.

Hmmm. my 2spds are the same length as this old ratty whore out jack shaft.
would the big tires and increased TQ of a larger motor kill it?

Gumpit, what length cables should I shoot for?

As far as the motor goes, if I can not find a Tecumseh in the 9-12 hp range I will concider your offers gents.

Yeah you would melt a 2 speed drive.. I guess there is a china knock off driver clutch you can buy.. Thats the rumor I've heard.. The cable you can probably just about measure out how you want it to work, and go from there.. It does take a LONG one though.. as long as you can find.. 5 feet or better..

CABLES ORDERED from link provided! However you want to deal is OK with me biz..

After a nice long chat with fellow member Steven D. I know the commit driver I need is a 20 series to match the 7'' driven pulley that's on the bike now.

Also, (don't call me a wimp) I decided to go with an 8hp Tecumseh if I can find one.

The OldMiniBikes members trike is well on its way! You guys are building it, I'm just paying for it:doah:
