My 5.5 ohv briggs is running fine but I went to grease the clutch bushing and noticed some end play on the crankshaft it is pretty noticeable and is the clunking noise I hear from time to time! I dont generally open small engine cases but need to start! I can't afford shop rates in this economy! Can I just open the case on the shaft side and shim the thing? Or do I have to go further into the engine? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

You can get a shim kit for an animal or world formula from Fastermotors or Rieken's Rieken's Racing: Animal Crank - OUT2WIN.COM pull the pto cover and try the thinnest shim first and go from there...You want a little end play but not excessive...
Thanks 125cccrazy! Like I said it runs great. I can let my son ride it because it has less low end power on takeoff than my clone, and since the governer was bypassed it will run down the clone at the top speed! 40-45mph easy, the clone is stock with the gov. still hooked up! I want the briggs back on due to those facts as well as the cool factor!
