figure $400 gone for the engine and clutch. there's another $45 for a header and you should do a filter/adapter which is another $50 and jet the carb (if yo do exhaust it's best to also free up the intake). if you want to remove the governor you'll need to get a billet rod for $150 (unless you want to take a chance destroying your $300 engine) and possibly valve springs for another $20.

that puts you right at your $700 limit with shipping providing you can do all the work yourself.

you'll have a kart that gets up and goes at that point, but i still think the money would be better spent on the 6.5. $700 in mods for one of those and you'll have a screamer that's putting out well over 11hp (maybe 12ish with exhaust and a filter).

if you plan on leaving the 11hp bone stock, then go for it.

i just really feel like you're jumping into this with a limited budget.

It almost sounds like you would be better off getting a modded engine from a place such as NR-Racing if your going to be modding.

Strigoi whats your opinion on getting a pre-modded engine,if your on a budget?

Thats a big engine, what are you planning on sticking it in. I would stay with the 6.5 clone and hop it up, The 6.5hp engine would fit into a minibike better.

i don't see anything wrong with doing that. they build good engines and know what they're doing. some people aren't comfortable building their own engine or don't have the tools to do it and it's a good option for them. they also tune them for you which can be a headache sometimes.

if you plan on leaving the 11hp bone stock, then go for it. he could probably make his own header for cheaper if he wanted to and he could buy a cam and carb for it from NR for 249$ for the cam and 39 for a gas carb or get the maxed out version for 99 and hed have 50$ left and could use that for a header pipe

i just really feel like you're jumping into this with a limited budget.
maby hes a litle nervous on havin an all out screamer like that if he wants his motor to sound bad ass id agree with you free up the intake and go with a header if he put a cam in there that would have an afect on it to

I mentioned getting an nr modded engine since it appears like maddcarson isnt ready for such a big step, from his questions here. This away no screwing something up attempting to do it without proper knowledge.(Not to mention tools)I'm the same way and if I decide I want to gain more experience I'll get a junker engine that I can experiment with. You know then it wont matter.

PS-I did take power mechanics in high school and we did learn on old school Tec 3.5 hp engines. However I was always high and forgot everything.

I just received in the mail ads from HF.They will be having an after Thanksgiving Day sale for 2 days. They have the 11 hp & 13 hp engines WITH ELECTRIC START for 259.00 & 299.00.

Just a heads up for maddcarson and anyone else.

13hp yeah!!!

go with the electric start 13hp you cant go wrong, yeah with that type money you could buy a screaming 6.5 and mod it to make 12hp maybe 15hp but for a kart torque is what you want and the 13hp puts out 17lbs stock plus with the right mods you will have a monster !!!
