71 Camero

Built this car for my youngest son when he was 16. Believe it or not he never got in trouble with it.

-Baccus built 502 with rectangular port alum. heads.
-Turbo 400 with Hughes trans brake and 3600 high stall converter.
-Mark Williams drive shaft ahd axles.
-12 bolt rear with 4.10 gears and ARP AirLocker. Onboard compressor.
-Four wheel Wellwood disks. Has extra calipers at rear for hand brake.
-Fuel cell with 350 GPM elect. pump.
-Converted to manual steering. Brake system not powered [vacuum to low] has a Mopar straight mastercylinder.
-Weld wheels [6]. Runs 29" Hoosier slicks when the cops arn't watching. Also a pair of Drag Radials that are DOT approved for normal use.
-2-1/8 jet coated headers. 3" exhaust pipes with SuperTrapp "mufflers".

In the picture of the dash you can see the extra instruments in the open end of the cowl induction. The dash is new and not butchered. The shift light and tach and ratchet shifter are the only things inside that are non stock. All glass has been replaced except the rear window. The heater motor and door latches and a few other sundries are the only things that have not been replaced. The paint is stock 71 Sunflower yellow. Bumpers and grill and trim are new.

After spending so much time around Mustangs, it's weird to see a relatively small car like a Camaro with enough space to fit a big block.

Had to slice the left side frame and move the manual steering box over aprox. 1/2 inch to clear the 2-1/8 headers. The power brake unit had to be discarded and a Mopar straight design master cylinder installed. This was a non airconditioned car so that piece of s**t was not a problem. The front crossmember required big hunks to be removed and more metal added. The oil pan and the windage tray are hand built items. The engine is rather tall especially with the high rise intake so a cowl induction hood was necessary. To get it in metal [not 'glass] was kinda spendie. The oversize alum. radiator required some metalwork to get it in place and a manual fan and a stock Chevelle big block shroud was able to be fitted. The idea was to use make the installation look GM so electric fans, although a lot easier and cheaper, would look dumb.

You're right, putting a big block in a Camaro is not very straight forward if the headers are large and there is a lot of intake heigth.

This thing was built almost 10 years ago. As the price of well done prostreet cars has went up to a level I never imagined, this project was not the waste of money that I had originally thought it would be.

Here is our fasted car. A '53 Studebaker. As it is 20 feet long there is plenty of room for the engine. Same color as the Camaro.

I can go 300mph, but I don't wanna.

My great uncle had an open wheel land speed car for a long time that he ran a lot at El Mirage. I'm pretty sure he hauled it to Bonneville multiple times too and even ran it at the Muroc Reunion. It was running a blown BBC if I remember correctly in the BGMR and BFMR classes.

I travel a lot but I do not own a car. I am always hauling toys or stuff for work so a truck is more appropriate. Sometimes I run out of room and the trailer is needed.

40,000 miles a year in the truck can get boring so I travel about 10,000 miles a year on the bike.

In the winter, for a little change I like to ride the sled.

In the summer when it gets hot, this is nice transportation.

A Fuel or Blown Roadster is a really neat land speed car. Does he still have that car? The 53 Stude is an A class [500 c.i.] Competition Coupe. Runs gas.

Attached is a pic of a really nice car. My 85 Escort. Cheap to insure, good gas mileage, no worries about it getting stolen when I'm in the bar, don't have to garage it, don't have to wash it, and the cops feel sorry for you. I get a kick out of folks with late model cars [that are for sure paying the max they can afford each month to drive it] looking so proud at signal lights. Also the idiots that think there new "muscle car", or some such piece of smogged plastic, is fast. If they ever got into a fast [or quick] car they would not know what to do. All I can do is smile and shake my head.

You're not kidding,Oldsalt. My first car was an 82 mercury Lynx(identical to the Escort),with the 4 speed standard tranny. That little car flew like the wind, yet often carried 15 friends to the bar on friday night and laughed it off.
It was an excellent design.

I miss my little Lynx!:crying:

He sold the car to a friend of his years ago and they campaigned it together for quite a while. I'm not sure if he is still doing it anymore. He has a whole pile of mint '20s and '30s Ford hotrods to play with anyway, all with Ford drivetrains I might add(and most of them have flatheads).

Here is one of my motorcycles. 'Spose to be a 41 Knucklehead. Assorted pieces were used to built it. The second picture shows the first mock-up. In both photos you can see, if you look closely, an electric starter stuck underneath the oil tank. The oil tank had to be hand made to get everything to work. It is a gas to ride because of the gear shift is on the tank and it has a foot clutch. The distributor does not have an advance mechanizm, the left hand grip is twisted to control spark timing. No stupid turn signals, and only one mirror.

That sounds like an absolute blast to ride. I've always wanted a jockey shifted bike but I think all that is just icing on the cake.

Sure, I'll jump in:
93 Miata
05 F250
06 Mustang GT
70 BSA B25
73 Harley Sprint SX
01 Harley Heritage

Austin, I'd love to see a pic of your Bantam. Few people, today, even know they ever existed. Did you know they were built in the same town as the original jeep?
