Clutch grabbing and whining...

#1
So the Purple Monkey has the PMR jackshaft which is great!!! But the clutch now is acting weird. It is grabbing at idle and stalling the engine.

To use the bike, you get on it and pop start it like a manual. What could be causing this? I have oiled the clutch as needed. Is something stuck inside and I need to clean it out.

Thanks in advance..

I would suspect that your clutch bushing is shot, or the springs need to be replaced. Either the shoes are stuck in an outward position, or the bushing isn't letting it spin freely.

I had a brand new clutch do exactly what you're describing after setting up my gear ratio incorrectly and trying to ride up a hill. The clutch was glowing red and it fried the internals. It wouldn't even come apart any more so I could replace the springs and bushing.

Thanks!

I will take it apart and take a look. The clutch has been on this mini for awhile but not THAT long. It is on a 79CC Predator with the PMR jack shaft. With this set-up the bike pulls my fat butt up hills with ease.

Although maybe not with ease as it might need a part or three!:eek:ut:
