Doesn't start with muffler on

#1
Finally bought a carb for this Craftsman Tecumseh HS50. I had reglued the flywheel magnets on a few months ago and set it aside till now. It started right up to my delight but when I put an S style spark arrestor on I got nothin. Even the sound of it was like it wasn't even close. What's with that??

Is the screen in the exhaust blocked or clogged. Maybe mud dobbers built a nest inside the pipe.... stranger things have happened.

Seems like a clog would be the culprit. If it runs without it, and you're only using a stock sized carb, then a simple muffler shouldn't be a problem. Keep us posted.

Gotta have through-put. Simplest rule of trouble shooting is what has changed since the last time it ran well. Good luck!

Well I've never seen it run. Prob hasn't since the 70's.

But yes you were all correct, chunk of dirt right at the bend of the spark arrestor. Felt it when I pushed a pipe cleaner through. Starts again. Now for the fun part...painting n decals! Thanks all.
