Glass Tillotson Fuel Bowl

Are those older Tillotson glass fuel bowls, usually found on 8 HP horizontal Briggs, suppose to have a fuel filter in them?

The bowl seems mighty big for just a sight glass. Even NOS ones just don't seem to have a filter in them. I would have figured they would have originally had at least a paper element filter.

Never mind. It looks like it's suppose to have a fuel strainer (mesh screen) at the top, where the gasket sits. Looks like the one I have is missing it. Probably chucked long ago.

ya it is susposed to have a mesh screen at the top of the glass. i picked one up at a scrap yard and thaught itl look good with tilly carb need a new filter and o ring tho

The screen is part #22547. There are 2 types, the square inlet hole and the round inlet hole. The bowl gasket is part #68477. All available on ebay.
